Movember

Movember and a vast array of moustaches have become synonymous with the month of November, the world over.  It is the leading global organization committed to changing the face of men’s health. In this crazy, unprecedented year that is 2020, life has been very different for us all, particularly charities and healthcare organisations. They have been under massive strain due to loss of income through their usual fundraising initiatives, most of which have had to be cancelled due to the current global pandemic.

In Ireland alone, it’s believed that over 2,000 cancers have gone undetected this year during the slow down and suspension of screening services due to Covid-19. Men’s health is in crisis at the moment. Men are dying, on average, 6 years earlier than women, and many, many of these deaths are preventable. Unchecked, prostate cancer rates will double in the next 15 years or so, globally testicular cancer is the most common cancer among men aged 15-39 and across the world, one man dies by suicide every minute of every day. Men account for almost 75% of all suicides, that’s a very frightening statistic.

Whilst we can’t yet part take in the usual fundraising activities such as gathering for a sponsored Shave or Dye, or even a parade of our finest moustaches, we can still support them and do our bit to raise vital and much needed funds. Now, more than ever they need our support and as cliched as it sounds, every cent really does count!

So our lads decided to take the opportunity to grow some questionable, to say the least, moustaches, beards and even mullets!! This led to much jovial banter and healthy competition amongst the lads. In the process, we raised the amazing sum of €2,245. We’d like to say a HUGE thank you to everyone who very kindly donated and a massive congrats to NIALL REDMOND, our Movember winner and BARRY FINNEGAN who came a close second.

Well done to all the lads who took part, and there’s still time to donate at the link below
